This Old Gang of Mine
Feb. 3rd, 2006 09:33 amDropped off
badgary at the airport, on his way down to Charlotte. Sounds like things are fun down there -- I guess Bobby Gibbs did pretty well in his first bout, despite going first in the first round. Haven't heard about
hairy_lamb, nor have there been any frantic requests to post bail from
chryslerpoet.
ETA New England feedback from
hot_rod_poet:
"Iyeoka's #1 overall with a 3!!!!! There's a three-way, all woman (Sonya Renee and Andrea Gibson) for first by rank, but Iyeoka's got the highest cumulative score. Jared and I are somewhere just under the middle of the pack. Bobby's a little ways behind us. I think Alex and Ansel are further back, but I don't remember for sure."
!!!Go Iyeoka!!!!
Very early tomorrow morning, we're headed to the exact same airport to go to California. Can. Not. Wait. One thing that's ocurred to me is how much of this trip is caught up in reconnecting with old friends. Like, people I first met in the '80s. Now, a lot of those people are still in my life -- like
mattshawproblem,
el3mo and
elseless -- and I count some of the people from that era as among my most significant and lasting friendships. But the thought of going to a reunion for my old Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast is still a little strange. Especially because I'm sure few if any of us really pass for freaks anymore. The world's gotten a little more "Rocky Horror" since we stopped doing it, and we've grown a little less so. Will also probably run into a few people tomorrow night at The Ministry of Unknown Science. I am pleased that a lot of my friends from back then are still doing cool art.
Sunday will be my birthday, and the plan now is our annual dim sum with
vsprtn and crew, followed by celebrating with
rubislippers,
inkog_neato and a collection of other friends. I'd also like to note that my first sports team love, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are in the Super Bowl on my birthday. How can they not win. Because it's all about me.
ETA that most people may not be aware that I was a child in Pennsylvania when the Steelers were on their legendary winning streak. Once upon a time, I could recite their line-up by name. I can no longer do this with any team, not even my beloved Boston Red Sox, but although I barely follow anymore, Steelers love is an ingrained reflex.
