Odds and Ends
Jun. 26th, 2006 07:11 pmPlayed a few rounds of that "Your LJ Dungeon" that's going around. A few favorite bits:
*You are in a gloomy alcove. You hear the sound of peter kropotkin in the distance.
*You are in a dark tunnel. Bones are scattered in the shape of michael chabon.
*You quaff the potion marked 'KRIS DELMHORST'. You suffer a momentary vision of indie music.
***
Have to re-evaluate my usual distaste for Poetry Magazine. Thumbed through a stack of recent issues that
chryslerpoet picked up at the auction the other night, and I've got to admit, I was actually actively enjoying them. Huh. Either it's changed or I have.

Found myself on the far fringe of an old argument again. Let me just say this: Performing poetry does not mean turning it into a song and dance -- in fact, that's generally to be discouraged unless you're particularly good at that sort of thing. However, poetry should always be read with some degree of care. As with anything else in life, presentation is part of professionalism. Do it as best as you can. The fact that one is a poet does not mean he or she has a pass to be sloppy. Bad reading smacks of amateurishness to me, no matter who it is.
