Car's in the shop. May be begging a ride later if anyone's available. Of course, I have no idea when. Sigh. Turns out it's nothing terribly big ... something or other came loose from the air conditioner, which already doesn't work. Throw in an oil change and I should be good to go later today. Aw, yeah. Living it up, Worcester-style.

Reluctance to drive kept us at home all weekend, which resulted in a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Season One marathon. I'm amazed at how well those episodes hold up, how compelling and entertaining they are even when they were working on a shoestring. (OK, on an even smaller shoestring.) It was neat watching them again, some of them for the first time in a couple years. Plus, everyone was so young and pretty.

Evidently, I spent the whole weekend in a geek nostalgia mood, as I also re-read a big chunk of "Starman," which really is one of the best superhero comics ever.

Still time to vote in the current round of !!!MORTAL KOMBAT POETRY SLAM!!!, as I'm not going to be able to finish this round until Tuesday morning.

Also, we're still taking submissions for the latest issue of The November 3rd Club. This issue will probably go live on or around Halloween, right in time for the mid-term elections, so there shoulf be plenty of inspiration out there!

I'd be terribly remiss if I didn't mention the big subject of gossip in the Worcester arts world this weekend, Gary Dusoe's eviction from the Harlow Street Sprinkler Factory.

Without casting aspersions on anyone, I think this has been an inevitability since WAG left there last year. (And indeed, I predicted it would happen.) I do feel sorry for the artists still there, as I've already heard rumors of studios facing 125% increases in rent, and at least one exhibit in the gallery has been canceled (although I'm not entirely certain there's a direct connection, although it seems there is.)

This is a bad time for the arts in Worcester, but perhaps there's an opportunity in it, too, a chance for the arts community to rid themselves of old institutions which, honestly, are limited and inherently conformist. Just an opinion ...
