I think he and Trudeau have finally made peace, don't you?

I was never really sure about their relationship, actually. Did HST object to Duke?

Yeah, although I think he calmed down in later years. Kinda funny when you think about it.

But I think this strip probably ended the conflict, wherever the good Doc is now.

I remember him shooting cardboard cutouts of Bill Murray, after "Where the Buffalo Roam" came out. Sometimes I think he made more of a show about these things than he actually cared. Never heard how he felt about Warren Ellis' "Transmetropolitan."

In a doonesbury collection, a sidebar quotes thompson telling about coming down the steps of some DC building and a throng of people saying "Look! It's Uncle Duke!" He didn't sound amused.

I've also heard that he said "No one wants to grow up to be a cartoon character"...though that could just be an ironic comment on his own life.

Trudeau mentioned in a Rolling Stone interview a few months ago that HST threatened to "kick his ass if he ever saw him"

I think Trudeau is showing his admiration for a man who made really great inspiration. Duke is the least realistic character in the strip, and so the oddest storylines always followed him. It's actually very strange to hear Duke break character and refer to the news like this.

gotta say, though..

not sure how I feel about his head blowing up. That's kind of... crass.

Well, Hunter didn't have any problems with his head blowing up ...

I'll follow his lead.

Err, not literally, right?

Yes, literally. But I don't know how he felt about *my* head exploding, so there's no lead on that to follow.

I only have the evidence on his head, and am not troubled by it, since he's the his-head expert.
