"Religion needs science to keep it away from superstition and keep it close to reality, to protect it from creationism, which at the end of the day is a kind of paganism - it's turning God into a nature god. And science needs religion in order to have a conscience, to know that, just because something is possible, it may not be a good thing to do." -- Brother Guy Consolmagno, Vatican astronomer

I've met Brother Guy -- he used to be a member of the MIT Science Fiction Society, so he still shows up at the occasional Boston area SF con to check in with his old friends -- a very cool guy who very much exemplifies the good side of the Roman Catholic church.

Good one, and personally amusing, because in re the rain, I just posted, "I'd like to know which sons of God have been taken with the beauty of the daughters of men, and married them, because frankly? I see no other explanation."

Man, I wish that wasn't too long to tattoo on myself.

That's an incredible, and so very true, quote.
